Compassion Fatigue and Burnout: The Real Cost of Caring

Jackie Scarborough, PhD, LPC, Bost, Inc., Fort Smith, AR

Compassion fatigue and burnout have swept the world. Professionals from different disciplines, settings, and experience levels are impacted by compassion fatigue and burnout. If these conditions go unresolved, they threaten individuals' physical and mental health, negatively disrupt work teams and organizations, and yield consequences that impact patient safety and satisfaction. Because we care about others and want to do all we can in their best interests, this relationship can often contribute to our emotional distress, including burnout and compassion fatigue.

This 2-hour lunch-and-learn event is cohosted by WAHRA's partner, the UAFS Center for Economic Development.
